🌍 프리야는 코치에서 간호학교를 마치고 검색창에 'NCLEX'를 입력해요. 한 시간 뒤: 열두 개의 탭이 열려 있고, 어떤 양식부터 해야 할지 모르겠어요. 미국 밖에서 가는 길은 더 길지만 정해진 순서가 있고, 끝에 있는 시험은 모두가 보는 것과 같은 시험이에요.

🌍 Priya finished nursing school in Kochi and types 'NCLEX' into a search bar. An hour later: twelve tabs, no idea which form comes first. The route from outside the US is longer, but it is a fixed sequence, and the exam at the end is the same one everyone takes.

💡 핵심 개념

위원회가 먼저, 그다음이 Pearson이에요. 간호 규제 기관이 응시 자격을 결정하고, Pearson은 자리만 팔아요. ATT가 도착하면 시험은 어디서든 누구에게나 똑같아요.

🧠 왜 중요한가요

첫 번째 단계는 간호 규제 기관(NRB)에 신청하는 거예요, 면허를 받고 싶은 미국 주나 준주의 간호 위원회예요. 응시 자격은 위원회만 결정하고, 각 위원회가 자체 규칙을 정해요. 대부분은 간호 교육과 출신 국가 면허에 대한 자격 평가를 요구하는데, 보통 CGFNS의 CES 전문 보고서예요(2025년에 TruMerit으로 이름이 바뀌었어요). 일부 위원회는 영어 능숙도 시험(TOEFL iBT, IELTS, PTE Academic 또는 OET)도 요구하는데, 위원회가 인정하는 나라에서 영어로 교육받았다면 면제돼요. Step one: APPLY TO A NURSING REGULATORY BODY (NRB), the board of nursing of the US state or territory where you want a license. Only the board decides eligibility, and each sets its own rules. Most want a CREDENTIALS EVALUATION of your nursing education and home-country license, commonly the CES Professional Report from CGFNS (renamed TruMerit in 2025). Some boards also require an ENGLISH PROFICIENCY test (TOEFL iBT, IELTS, PTE Academic or OET) unless you trained in English in a country they recognize. A VISASCREEN certificate is a separate federal requirement for a work visa, not for the NCLEX. Step two: REGISTER WITH PEARSON VUE and pay the registration fee ($200 for US licensure as of October 2026, $350 from February 1, 2027; check nclex.com for the current amount). Registration stays open 365 days waiting for the board; if it never declares you eligible, registration and fee are forfeited. Step three: once the board makes you eligible, Pearson emails your AUTHORIZATION TO TEST (ATT). Its validity is set by the board, averages about 90 days, and cannot be extended for any reason. Step four: SCHEDULE at a Pearson VUE center in the US (American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the US Virgin Islands count as domestic), or at an INTERNATIONAL center for a $150 scheduling fee plus VAT where applicable. In October 2026 the international list is Australia, Brazil, France, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Türkiye and the United Kingdom; it can change without notice. Wherever you sit, the exam is IDENTICAL: 85 to 150 items, five hours, the same test plan and the same passing standard as a US graduate. Results come from your board, up to six weeks later.

🛂 Priya's board declares her eligible in May, four months after she applied. She registers, gets her ATT and books an 8 a.m. seat in Bengaluru, local time, for June. Passport and ATT both read 'Priya Nair' in Roman letters, so she walks in. Inside: 'client' for 'patient', acetaminophen for paracetamol, a glucose of 180 mg/dL instead of 10 mmol/L, a fever of 101.5 °F, and a child's weight in pounds to convert to kilograms. New dialect, same nursing, and she practiced it.
